“Getting Started with Cover Crops and Fine-Tuning Cover Crop Plans” Field Day in Judd Hill, Arkansas

The “Getting Started with Cover Crops and Fine-Tuning Cover Crop Plans” field day was held at the Judd Hill Research and Commercial Farm in Judd Hill, Arkansas, on August 15, 2023. This farm is managed by SHI Farmer Mentor Jesse Flye. There were 30 attendees, eight of whom were growers. Growers discussed their experiences using cover crops and learned from others about new soil health management strategies. The United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) spoke about their cover crop programs and SHI spoke about the SHI USRCF Cover Crop Challenge Program. NRCS District Conservationist Adam Eades said this was one of the best roundtables he’s been a part of in his career. Thank you to SHI Soil Health Educator Emily Ball for organizing this event.
